JAZ wins the Out of School Youth Competition

Congratulations to the Junior Achievement Zimbabwe teams for winning both the first and second place at the 2018 Out of School Youth (OOSY) Competition. The teams won beating out other eleven alumni companies from other countries. We are grateful and feel so proud of our teams.

On first place was Shasha Network, Zimbabwe – a student-driven online based digital learning and collaboration platform that provides Zimbabwean high school students access to advanced and ordinary level lecture notes and examination content at low cost.

Netro Electronics, a Zimbabwean company that focuses on improving STEM education by providing electronics and robotics equipment for technology projects, tutorials and customised smart devices came second.

Facebook Digital Marketing Award went to theInclusion Media (Kenya) who developed PAID, an online customer relationship management (CRM) system that provides business owners in-depth insight into their customers and their purchasing interests, and allows businesses to run customer loyalty programs and personalize SMS campaigns to increase the effectiveness of their marketing efforts.

The competition is a collaboration between JA Africa and Facebook aimed at promoting youth entrepreneurship and enhancing access to markets through digital marketing. Thirteen young African entrepreneurs from six African countries, all of who are JA alumni, competed.

They were judged by a panel of seven judges on their business plans, a 3-minute video ad, their Facebook business page and completion of Facebook Blueprint courses. The judges were:

The winners will receive cash prizes of $1500 and $1,000 for first and second place respectively. The Facebook Digital Marketing Award winner also receives $500 in cash and ad credits.
